Publications![]() When Diane Quintin's Del Mar clients moved into a family home that had once belonged to the husband's patents, the husband was enveloped in good memories. The wife got to add her personal touch when Quintin redid the dark and dated kitchen. For example, a floral mosaic made up of flowers from the homeowers' wedding bouquet was incorporated into the remodeled kitchen's backsplash and several tiles depicting the wedding roses were installed on the wall. Murano glass pendants, which hold special memories of the wife's childhood, hand above the island. The kitchen also was designed around the family's two children. Quintin created spaces just for them to put their own dishes away and, as a safety precaution, she raised the microwave. A large desk was installed in the kitchen near the children's play area so that the husband could work in the evening while staying close to family activities. Bay window and white cabinets brighten the kitchen, while dark cherry cabinets in the island lend contrast. The kitchen has the right mix of light, warmth and vibrant color, "but what I love most about the kitchen," say the wife, "is that it feels like it is mine." < back |
